Byekwaso Charts Long-Term Rebuild Plan After SC Villa’s Underwhelming Season

SC Villa head coach Morley Byekwaso has pledged to restore the club’s stature following a difficult 2024/25 campaign, outlining a long-term plan centered on rebuilding and sustained success.

The 16-time Uganda Premier League champions endured an underwhelming season, finishing 6th on the log with 45 points from 12 wins, 9 draws, and 9 losses in 30 matches. The outcome marked a sharp drop in form for a side that lifted the league title just a year ago.

“The 6th position is not what we wanted, and we’re already making plans to fix what held us back,” Byekwaso told NBS Sport in an exclusive interview. “We have a big task ahead to take Villa back to its rightful position.”

Byekwaso, who took charge of the Jogoos following their 2023/24 title-winning run, revealed that the club’s future hinges on youth development and patience, as they embark on a fresh chapter with a focus on long-term competitiveness.

“Our focus is on building a squad of young, talented players who can carry the club forward for at least the next five years,” he said. “I’m known for developing talent, and that’s the path we’re fully embracing.”

SC Villa, once synonymous with dominance in Ugandan football, will now shift their attention to reshaping the squad during the off-season. The club is expected to be active in the transfer market as they seek to bolster their ranks ahead of the 2025/26 season.

While Villa regroups, newly crowned league champions Vipers SC will be chasing a domestic double later today when they take on KCCA FC in the Uganda Cup final.
