Survival vs Promotion: MYDA, Blacks Power Set for Tense FUFA Big League Clash

By John Baptist Opua

All eyes will be on Kongunga P7 School Playground on Sunday at 4 PM as MYDA FC hosts Blacks Power FC in a high-stakes encounter that could shape the fate of both clubs in this season’s FUFA Big League.

For MYDA FC, currently placed 12th with 26 points, the mission is survival.

Just two points separate the Tororo-based side from safety, with Arua Hills FC sitting directly above the relegation line.

Recent form offers a glimmer of hope: MYDA has won three matches on the bounce, including a dominant 3-0 win over Booma FC at home. That run of results has lifted spirits in the camp as the team looks to preserve its status in the second tier.

Their home ground has proven to be a difficult venue for visiting teams, with MYDA suffering only one defeat there this year. That record will be crucial as they prepare to host a side with promotion ambitions of their own.

Blacks Power FC, once frontrunners in the league, have stumbled in recent weeks. The Lira-based club has dropped to fourth place with 42 points, six behind leaders Buhimba United Saints. They now trail second-placed Calvary FC by three points and are just one point off third-placed Paidha Black Angels.

Despite leading the table for much of the campaign, Blacks Power has failed to win in their last three matches and have scored only once during that period.

The dip in form has led to internal scrutiny, with sources indicating that multiple crisis meetings have taken place between the club’s management and players ahead of this critical fixture.

The last meeting between the two sides saw Blacks Power edge MYDA 1-0, courtesy of a goal from Michael Siwu at Akii Bua Stadium. That result will give the visitors confidence, though MYDA’s recent resurgence may pose a greater challenge this time around.

Meanwhile, attention will also turn to other key fixtures on Sunday, June 1. Gaddafi FC, currently fifth with 40 points, will host Arua Hills FC in a match with implications at both ends of the table. Gaddafi will be looking to close the gap on the promotion pack, while Arua Hills, just two points above the drop zone—are in desperate need of a result to ease their relegation fears.

Elsewhere, Ntugasaze hosts bottom-placed Booma FC, while Kigezi Home Boys FC travel to West Nile to face Onduparaka FC.
