NBS Sport will broadcast the highly anticipated opening day of the MTN Tooro Kingdom Amasaza Cup 2025 this Sunday, June 8, bringing the action of both football and netball directly to viewers across the country.
This year’s edition marks a historic moment for the annual kingdom championship, as it features a women’s netball competition for the very first time alongside the men’s football tournament.
The broadcast partnership with NBS Sport is expected to shine a national spotlight on the event’s expanding reach, inclusivity, and growing competitive edge.
The 2025 tournament was officially launched on May 15 in Fort Portal, and it features teams from all nine counties (masaza) of Tooro Kingdom.
The competition, which runs until September 7, will culminate in grand finals at Buhinga Stadium, just days before the kingdom celebrates the 30th coronation anniversary of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV on September 12.
The dual-sport format is a key highlight this year. While men’s football has long been the centrepiece of the Amasaza Cup, the introduction of women’s netball signals a new chapter aimed at fostering gender inclusion and youth participation.
Kingdom Premier Calvin Armstrong described this year’s edition as “special,” noting that it seeks to ignite “a sense of pride, identity, and unity across the kingdom.”
Sunday’s broadcast will begin with Group A football and netball matches between Kyaka and Kibale counties at Humura Playground in Kyegegwa Town.
Kyaka, the 2022 football champions, will be looking to kick-start their campaign with a win in front of home support.
In netball, their women’s team will also face Kibale in the tournament’s inaugural netball clash. Later in the week, Fort Portal will face both Kyaka and Kibale in the remaining Group A fixtures.
This year’s tournament is also notable for its enhanced prize structure. The football champions will earn Shs12 million, while netball winners will pocket Shs5 million.
Runners-up and third-place finishers in both sports will also receive substantial rewards.
Additionally, logistical support has been factored in, with each football team receiving Shs1 million per match and netball teams getting Shs500,000.
