Polish football icon Robert Lewandowski has dramatically announced his retirement from the national team, effective immediately, as long as Michal Probierz remains head coach.
The decision, citing a “loss of trust,” follows his recent replacement as captain by Piotr Zielinski.
Lewandowski, Poland’s record goalscorer with 85 goals, expressed his hope to play again for his country’s fans but affirmed his stance against continuing under Probierz.
This development follows Probierz’s controversial tenure, including Poland’s early exit from Euro 2024, despite a strong start to their World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign.
Probierz is expected to address the situation at a press conference on Monday.
