Ugandan forward Allan Kayiwa has won the Ethiopian Premier League title with Ethiopian Insurance—despite the team not being in action.
The championship was confirmed on Monday morning after second-placed Ethiopian Bunna were held to a 1-1 draw by Mekelle 70 Enderta. The result meant Ethiopian Insurance could no longer be caught at the top of the table, sealing the title with four matches to spare.
Kayiwa, who joined Ethiopian Insurance at the start of the season from fellow Ethiopian side Shashemene Kenema, has made 20 league appearances, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
With this victory, Kayiwa becomes the latest in a growing line of Ugandan players to win the Ethiopian Premier League in recent years. Others include:
- 2023/24 – Simon Peter Oketch (CBE)
- 2022/23 – Charles Lukwago (St. George)
This season has featured a strong Ugandan presence in the Ethiopian top flight, with 12 players representing various clubs.
