The 2025 NCBA Golf Series got into full swing this weekend as golfers hit the fairways at Uganda Golf Club for the first leg of a vibrant three-course tournament.
From top-tier competition to digital innovation and even Shs1,000 beers, this year’s edition is already serving up more than just birdies and bogeys.
Golfers from all walks of life turned up at the par-72 Kitante course in Kampala for the opening round, which will be followed by events at Jinja Golf Club and Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa.
The Series, now in its fifth year, has become one of the hottest tickets in East African golf. It’s not just about the game—it’s about creating an experience that celebrates talent, community, and unforgettable moments.
A major crowd-puller this year is the hole-in-one challenge. Any player who sinks an ace on a selected par-3 will walk away with a brand-new Nissan Qashqai, thanks to Motorcare Uganda. With that kind of prize on the line, every tee shot came with a dose of adrenaline.
“This year’s Series goes beyond great golf. It’s about unforgettable experiences—for players, fans, and partners,” said NCBA Bank Uganda CEO Mark Muyobo. “We’re combining competitive sport with entertainment, tech, and lifestyle.”
Entertainment is already in full swing, with a golf-themed quiz hosted by sports media personalities Mark Namanya and Mark Ssali. Their energetic banter and deep sports trivia knowledge kept participants on their toes, adding a fun twist to the day’s action.
NCBA is also putting its money where its tech is. The entire event runs on Muzuri Pay, the bank’s cashless payment platform. From registration to food, drinks, and gear—everything’s digital. It’s fast, secure, and easy, and it turned the 19th hole into a budget-friendly party, with cold beers going for just Shs1,000.
The tournament draws a dynamic mix of amateur golfers, business leaders, and golf fans, all competing for points in the series leaderboard. Six top players from each leg will qualify for the Grand Finale in Nairobi, where the stakes get even higher. Winners from each round—including the best overall, men’s and ladies’ champs, top juniors, and division leaders—will also punch their ticket to the finale.
Last year, Uganda’s full team of 18 made their mark in Nairobi, led by names like Aggrey Mutaka, Judith Mugisha, and Brian Omeda. Their strong showing proved that Uganda’s golf scene is no longer a quiet one.
The NCBA Golf Series is quickly cementing itself as more than just a sports event. It’s a platform for discovering new talent, deepening regional connections, and turning a weekend on the green into something truly electric.
As the tournament heads east to Jinja and then to Lake Victoria Serena, the leaderboard is wide open, and the buzz is only getting louder.
