New Manchester City signing Rayan Cherki has wasted no time in declaring his intent to “kill” rivals Manchester United, seeking revenge for Lyon’s dramatic Europa League exit at Old Trafford in April.
The 21-year-old French international, who joined City for £30.45m, expressed his lingering frustration over United’s stunning comeback victory against his former club.
Cherki, an attacking talent described as “one of Europe’s best technicians,” aims to write his own legacy at City, rather than simply replacing Kevin De Bruyne.
He hopes to win major trophies and even the Ballon d’Or, inspired by teammate Rodri.
The Premier League fixtures, revealing when Cherki will get his chance against United, are due out on Wednesday.
Cherki is part of a significant midfield rebuild for City, which also includes Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan, and adds to the growing Arabic influence in the squad.
City are currently in the US for the FIFA Club World Cup, with their opening game against Wydad AC on Wednesday.
