Hon. Ogwang Calls for Support of Netball Normalisation Committee Amid Leadership Dispute

By Nalunga Edreen Teopista

Uganda’s State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang, has reiterated government support for the country’s growing sports sector, praising President Yoweri Museveni and the Ministry of Finance for their ongoing investment in infrastructure.

Minister Ogwang, who was represented by NCS General Secretary Bernard Ogwel at the State of Ugandan Sport Symposium said Uganda’s sporting talent has never been in question—but until now, the facilities haven’t kept pace.

“We have over four stadiums under study and development—Mbarara, Lugogo, Buhinga and more—thanks to deliberate government efforts,” he said, adding that this marks a shift toward long-term planning and improved access to quality venues.

He also pointed to key figures and institutions driving progress in the sector, naming Rt. Hon. Speaker Anita Among, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, KCCA, and businessman Hamis Kiggundu as examples of strategic players investing in legacy projects that aim to uplift Ugandan sport.

Ogwang urged further investment in institution-run football clubs like URA, UPDF, and Police, noting that the talent is already there—what’s needed now is serious support in infrastructure, management, and funding.

His comments complement ongoing conversations at the State of Ugandan Sport Symposium, which is being broadcast live on NBS Sport.

The two-day event, themed “Bridging the Gap,” brings together athletes, government officials, and stakeholders to chart a clearer path forward for Ugandan sport—one that moves beyond talk and focuses on sustainable solutions.
