Inzaghi Defends Al-Hilal Move Amid Criticism

Former Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has brushed off criticism regarding his transfer to Saudi club Al-Hilal, just before his debut against Real Madrid in the Club World Cup today.

Inzaghi’s move, announced shortly after Inter’s 5-0 Champions League final loss to PSG, led to speculation that his impending departure might have affected Inter’s performance.

However, Al-Hilal CEO Esteve Calzada clarified that the decision was made before the final, with Inzaghi requesting a delayed announcement out of respect for Inter.

Addressing the media, Inzaghi said, “If this [criticism] was the price I had to pay for my four years at Inter, I am happy to pay it.”

He expressed gratitude for his time at Inter, acknowledging he would miss it but confirming the mutual decision to part ways was for “the good of Inter.”

Inzaghi defended his choice to join the Saudi Pro League, stating, “I accepted the challenge and stepped out of my comfort zone… I want to change my way of thinking, my style of play, and try new things.”

He emphasized that Al-Hilal was the only team he wanted to coach.
