Vipers Turn to Kawempe Muslim as New Women’s Side

Kawempe Muslim Ladies Football Club and Vipers Sports Club have entered a two-year partnership that will see Kawempe serve as the official women’s team for Vipers starting with the 2025/26 season.

The agreement, confirmed to NBS Sport by a Kawempe Muslim official, comes in response to new FUFA regulations requiring all Women Super League clubs to be affiliated with a men’s team from the Uganda Premier League, FUFA Big League, or Regional League.

In addition, revised Club Licensing rules now mandate all Uganda Premier League teams to have a women’s side competing in either the Women Super League or the Women Elite League starting next season.

The timing of the partnership aligns with the end of Vipers’ previous arrangement with Wakiso Hill WFC. That club had served as Vipers’ official women’s team since 2023 but was recently relegated from the Women Super League.

As part of the new deal, Kawempe Muslim will be allowed to use Vipers’ home ground, St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, for both training sessions and official matches.

The partnership brings together two of the most accomplished clubs in Ugandan football.

Vipers are the reigning Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup champions, having secured their second domestic double in the 2024/25 season. They will also represent Uganda in the upcoming CAF Champions League. Since 2010, Vipers have won seven league titles and four Uganda Cups.

Kawempe Muslim, meanwhile, are the most successful club in FUFA Women Super League history, having lifted the title five times—in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and most recently in 2024. Although they finished second to Kampala Queens last season, Kawempe are set to play in their first-ever FUFA Women’s Cup final on Saturday, June 28.

Both clubs are widely respected for their investment in youth development. Just like Vipers’ feeder side, St. Mary’s Kitende, Kawempe Muslim has produced numerous elite players for both club and country, adding further value to the partnership.

A press conference is expected in the coming days to officially unveil the partnership and share more details on the roadmap ahead.
