“Rugby Cranes Need You” – Kiwanuka Rallies Country Ahead of Africa Cup

Prominent rugby supporter Edward Kiwanuka has called on Ugandans from all corners of the country to rally behind the national team as the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup draws near.

The tournament, which doubles as a 2027 World Cup qualifier, will run from July 8 to 19 at Mandela National Stadium—Namboole.

Speaking with passion and belief, Kiwanuka urged fans to seize what could be a once-in-a-generation opportunity to watch continental rugby at home.

“This is not just an Africa Cup—it’s a World Cup qualifier,” he said. “Let’s all show up and support our boys. Who knows when we’ll get to host this tournament again?”

Kiwanuka stressed the importance of crowd support, pointing out that home advantage could play a crucial role in Uganda’s campaign.

The Rugby Cranes will begin their journey in a fiery quarterfinal clash against arch-rivals Kenya, with only the tournament winner securing automatic qualification to the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

“I think this squad is better than what we had before,” Kiwanuka added. “I have full confidence they’ll rise to the occasion.”

The tournament will bring together the continent’s top eight teams, including Zimbabwe, Namibia, Kenya, Algeria, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Morocco.

With the iconic Webb Ellis Cup also set to visit Uganda during the tournament, the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup promises more than just competition.
