Young Africans SC, the club of Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho, have once again been crowned champions of the Tanzania Premier League, the Ligi Kuu Bara.
This marks their fourth consecutive league triumph, and it felt even sweeter as they sealed the title with a 2-0 victory over archrivals Simba SC at Chamazi Stadium on the final day of the season.
Second-half goals from Pacome Zouzoua (67th minute) and Clement Mzize (82nd minute) secured a priceless win for Yanga on Wednesday.
Heading into the game, Yanga were already top of the table with 79 points and only needed a draw against their rivals.
However, they went all out to claim bragging rights, taking maximum points and finishing the season with 82 points.
Simba SC, featuring Aucho’s compatriot Steven Mukwala, settled for second place with 78 points after also losing the first leg against Yanga in October last year.
This victory brings Yanga’s total Ligi Kuu Bara titles to 31, extending their lead over Simba, who trail by nine trophies with 22 titles.
If this turns out to be Aucho’s last season at Yanga, what a remarkable journey it has been, a fan favorite who has helped the club secure four consecutive league titles.
His current contract expires next week on June 30, with reports suggesting it will not be renewed.
