Lando Norris delivered a dominant performance today, securing pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix by over half a second.
The McLaren driver’s sensational lap puts him in prime position to challenge championship leader and teammate Oscar Piastri, who qualified third.
Norris’s time was a remarkable 0.521 seconds faster than Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, who will start from second.
This strong showing is a significant boost for Norris, especially after his crash in the previous Canadian Grand Prix. “Qualifying has been some of my tough moments so to put in a lap like this is pleasing for myself,” he stated.
Leclerc’s front-row start, only Ferrari’s second this season, comes after the introduction of a new floor on their car. He expressed optimism, noting, “We brought some new parts this weekend, which for sure have made a difference.”
Piastri, while acknowledging Norris’s speed, said he “definitely had the speed to be on the front row” but was hampered by a late spin from Alpine’s Pierre Gasly.
