Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) powered into the FIFA Club World Cup last 16 with a resounding 4-0 victory over Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
Young Portuguese midfielder João Neves was the standout, netting his first career brace.
Neves opened the scoring in the sixth minute and doubled PSG’s lead in the 39th.
An own goal from Tomas Avilés in the 44th minute and a strike from Achraf Hakimi in added time solidified PSG’s commanding 4-0 lead at halftime.
With the win secured, PSG eased off in the second half, opting to conserve energy.
Despite Lionel Messi’s efforts for Inter Miami, the European champions effectively shut down their former star. The return of top scorer Ousmane Dembélé also boosted PSG.
PSG will face the winner of the Flamengo-Bayern Munich match, in the quarter-finals.
Inter Miami returns to MLS action against Montreal on Sunday, July 6.
