SC Villa have backed newly appointed head coach Kovacevic Zeljko to transform the club’s fortunes and restore their place at the top of Ugandan football.
In an official statement released after his unveiling, the record Uganda Premier League champions described the 43-year-old Serbian as “one of the best tacticians of modern football,” adding that his arrival marks the start of a new and exciting chapter for the Jogoos.
“Zeljko joins SC Villa with a wealth of experience and brings to the club some of the unique qualities it has sought after for a very long time,” the club said.
“His unique understanding of the game is an exciting prospect and we have no doubt that he will, in the fullness of time, make Villa the best club on the continent.”
Kovacevic’s appointment comes after a turbulent off-season that saw fellow Serbian Nemanja Milincic leave abruptly before overseeing a single competitive match.
Despite the uncertainty, Villa’s management appears confident that they’ve now found the right man.
Villa also promised full support for the former defender, whose coaching career spans over a decade across the Balkans and Eastern Europe.
“He is very welcome to Uganda’s record champions. The club undertakes to fully support him and ensure that he meets his targets and the club’s aspirations within the shortest time,” the statement read.
Villa finished sixth last season under Morley Byekwaso, but with Kovacevic’s experience and tactical discipline, hopes are high that he can return the team to title contention.
Club officials also assured fans that serious work is being done behind the scenes ahead of the new season, urging continued support as pre-season preparations ramp up.
