Nakivubo Hamz Stadium was the stage for an unforgettable spectacle as Boda Boda Union FC faced off against Gonya Veterans FC in the inaugural “Boda Boda Game.”
The event, which fused football with a unique motorcycle giveaway, captivated spectators and set the bar high for future community-driven sports events.
As the clock struck 4:00 PM, fans packed the stands, eagerly awaiting not only the action on the pitch but also the chance to win one of ten boda boda motorcycles offered throughout the day.
Just before kickoff, organisers ramped up the excitement by hosting a live draw, where spectators, who had entered via a mobile app, eagerly anticipated their names being called out.
On the field, Boda Boda Union FC dominated the match, clinching a decisive 4–0 victory over Gonya Veterans FC.
Kakaire R. got the ball rolling early, scoring in the 18th and 40th minutes, with additional goals in the second half further cementing their tactical superiority and clinical finishing.
One of the lucky winners of a boda boda, Sadick Junior Wummalu, shared his joy: “I’m really happy for winning this motorcycle and I thank Mr. Ham for organizing this tournament. I wasn’t expecting this to happen, and I’m just so excited!”
As the match continued, the atmosphere grew even more electric with chants and cheers from fans, many wearing themed T-shirts and waving banners in support of their teams. Between the goals and at halftime, the motorcycle giveaway kept the energy alive, with cheers ringing out as winners embraced their new bikes on the pitch.
Mwizuuka Innocent, the CEO of Boda Boda Union FC, expressed his gratitude, “I thank my team players for helping us win this round of 32 game and qualify for the round of 16. I’m really happy, and we appreciate Mr. Ham for organizing this tournament and the Union Group as well.”
Building on the overwhelming success of this inaugural event, organisers have announced plans to make the Boda Boda Game an annual tradition.
They aim to expand the entries, host at more venues, and potentially include international teams in future editions.
The goal is to seamlessly blend charity, entertainment, and grassroots sports, making this event a cornerstone of Kampala’s sports culture.
