Former Uganda Cranes captain Denis Onyango has joined the Uganda African Nations Championships (CHAN) team camp to offer crucial support to the goalkeeping department, following a special request from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
The Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper, widely regarded as one of Africa’s finest goalkeepers, brings with him a wealth of experience and leadership that promises to inspire the local-based stars.
“Former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and Captain Denis Onyango has graciously offered to support the CHAN squad’s goalkeeping department during his holiday in the country, after being approached by FUFA,” a communication confirmed.
“He will join the team at Luzira today for a 10am training session, providing support for the duration of his stay,” the local football custodians added.
Onyango, who captained the Cranes to their historic 2017 Africa Cup of Nations return after a 39-year absence, remains a revered figure in Ugandan football circles.
His decision to work closely with the CHAN team underlines his continued commitment to uplifting the national team even after stepping away from international duty in 2021.
As the CHAN squad intensifies preparations for upcoming regional competitions, Onyango’s presence is expected to sharpen the skills, confidence, and mental resilience of the young goalkeepers.
