In the face of a turbulent off-season that has seen Kitara rocked by player exits and leadership changes, the club has taken a decisive step to anchor its future—securing its technical team for the next two years and announcing a key reshuffle in its coaching hierarchy.
In a statement dated July 7, Kitara confirmed that contracts for its entire technical bench have been renewed through to 2027.
As part of the reshuffle, George William Lutalo, previously the assistant coach, has been promoted to head coach.
Former head coach Wasswa Bbosa will now serve as assistant as he prepares to undertake the CAF A Coaching Course, a requirement under FUFA’s club licensing regulations.
The club emphasized that the switch is more about structural compliance than a demotion, reaffirming that both coaches remain central to Kitara’s vision.
“Coach Bbosa’s transition is a strategic one that aligns with FUFA licensing standards, and we fully support his growth. Both he and Coach Lutalo are key to the club’s ambitions,” said CEO Joshua Atugonza in the statement.
The announcement comes at a critical time for Kitara, who are grappling with the expiration of contracts for over a dozen first-team players and the departure of club president Deo Kasozi.
The technical team extension appears to be part of a broader effort by interim leadership to retain some continuity and direction as the club rebuilds.
The club also confirmed that announcements regarding the rest of the backroom staff will follow after internal consultations are completed.
Kitara’s off-season has been anything but quiet. But with trials for new players underway and the coaching staff now locked in for the long haul, the Royals are starting to show signs of a structured reset.
