Uganda Premier League side Kitara have announced a change in technical roles involving Wasswa Bbosa and George William Lutalo.
In a club statement, Bbosa, widely regarded as the head coach, has been officially confirmed as the assistant coach, while George Lutalo has been named head coach.
This development follows the renewal of contracts for both coaches, with each signing new two-year deals after the expiry of their previous terms.
“Kitara Football Club is pleased to officially announce the renewal of contracts for our technical team for a further two years, reaffirming our commitment and long-term success,” the statement reads.
“As part of the new chapter, the club has made an important adjustment in the technical leadership structure.”
“Mr. Lutalo George William, previously the Assistant Coach, has been appointed as the Head Coach, while Mr. Wasswa Bbosa will now assume the role of Assistant Coach.”
The decision stems from licensing requirements set by the FUFA Club Licensing Committee, which now mandate that all head coaches in the Uganda Premier League must possess a CAF A Coaching License.
Coach Lutalo already holds a CAF A License and has experience with the national team setup, notably leading the Crested Cranes during the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Meanwhile, Bbosa, a CAF B license holder, is set to enroll for the CAF A course.
He previously missed out on coaching Express FC on the touchline during the CAF Champions League qualifiers in 2021 due to licensing limitations.
“The club fully supports Coach Bbosa’s pursuit of professional development and compliance with FUFA’s licensing standards.”
“Both coaches remain integral to the club’s vision and ambitions. Their roles have simply been adjusted to ensure full compliance while maintaining the strength of our technical setup,” the statement added.
This adjustment reflects a broader trend across the UPL, as clubs respond to the updated licensing rules.
Newly promoted Gaddafi FC, for example, are currently in search of a qualified head coach, with former KCCA FC boss Abdallah Mubiru reportedly on their radar.
