Uganda’s national women’s basketball team, the Gazelles, will hold a high-intensity training camp in Egypt as part of their final preparations for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, which tips off on July 26 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The team is scheduled to depart for Cairo on Friday, July 11, where they will play three warm-up matches against Egypt, Rwanda, and Cameroon between July 12 and 15 at the Mostapha Sports Halls.

These friendlies are intended to sharpen the squad’s match fitness and tactical readiness ahead of their campaign on the continental stage.

After the Cairo leg, the Gazelles will move to Alexandria for a focused training block from July 15 to 24, before connecting to Abidjan in time for the start of the tournament.

Uganda has been drawn into Group C alongside Senegal and Guinea.

Group winners will advance directly to the quarter-finals, while second and third-placed teams will play a qualification round to join the last eight.

The Gazelles will be targeting a strong start in what is widely viewed as a competitive group, especially with 11-time champions Senegal in the mix.

The upcoming camp and friendly games will give head coach Nicholas Natuhereza a chance to fine-tune his squad and test various lineups against some of the teams they may meet in the knockout stages.

Uganda qualified for AfroBasket after winning the FIBA Zone V Qualifiers in Cairo last year, defeating hosts Egypt 74-63 in the final.

Before flying out, the team will hold an open training session at the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Thursday, July 10. Fans are encouraged to attend the 9:00 AM session to show their support and bid the team farewell.

The 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket will be held from July 26 to August 3 in Abidjan, marking Côte d’Ivoire’s first time hosting the competition.
