DR Congo, Tunisia, Tanzania, and Botswana Exit WAFCON 2024

As the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) enters its quarterfinal stage, four teams—DR Congo, Tunisia, Tanzania, and Botswana—have concluded their journey.

Botswana’s campaign ended on a bittersweet note despite a spirited 2-1 comeback win against Tunisia.

Their fate was sealed when Ghana’s victory over Tanzania secured the final knockout spot. Yet, the Mares left with their heads held high, showcasing immense character.

DR Congo’s Flavine Mawete delivered a moment of pure brilliance, equalizing against host nation Morocco with a stunning left-footed strike that momentarily silenced 21,000 fans. Her goal was a symbol of defiance and skill.

Tanzania pushed defending champions South Africa to the brink, taking a deserved lead before a late equalizer salvaged a draw for their opponents.

This result was a moral victory for the Twiga Stars, who proved their mettle against a top-tier team.

Off the pitch, Tunisia’s supporters brought a home atmosphere to Morocco, cheering on the Carthage Eagles with unwavering passion.

As their captain Chaima Abbassi noted, the fans’ energy was a tremendous boost, highlighting the powerful connection between the team and its supporters.
