Kitara’s Interim Boss Nyaika Vows to Build on Kasozi’s Legacy

Kitara Football Club interim president ASP Gilbert Nyaika says the club is determined to become Uganda’s biggest football institution and eventually make a name on the continental stage.

Speaking during a live interview on NBS Sport on Tuesday, Nyaika laid out an ambitious vision built on community ownership, youth development, and competitive excellence.

“We want to be looked at as the biggest football club in the country. That’s our first target,” Nyaika said. “Once we set that standard, we can then move onto the continental stage.”

But growth, according to Nyaika, must start at home—with the fans. He emphasized the club’s goal to become a true community club, owned and supported by the people across every corner of Uganda.

“We want everyone to feel part of Kitara. Whether you’re in Hoima, Gulu, or Mbale, we want you to find someone who supports the team. That’s how we build a real national identity,” he said.

As part of the club’s off-season activities, Kitara recently launched open trials to recruit local players for both the senior squad and youth academy.

Nyaika clarified that the trials have always been part of the club’s system and that several current stars were discovered through this approach.

“People are blowing it out of proportion,” he said. “Players came through trials. It’s part of our DNA—spotting local talent, building them up, and integrating them into our senior and junior teams.”

Kitara’s commitment to development isn’t stopping at youth football. Nyaika confirmed that the club is also putting more resources into its women’s side, Kitara Queens, in line with FUFA’s policy requiring every top-tier club to have a women’s team.

“We’re working hard to strengthen Kitara Queens and expand our women’s football efforts. It’s no longer a side project—it’s a priority.”

With a new season on the horizon, Nyaika sent a rallying call to the fans. He asked them not just to fill stadium seats, but also to get involved in shaping the club’s leadership and long-term direction.

“This is the time for the fans to show up. If you believe you can lead, come forward. Show your credibility and join us in taking Kitara to the next level,” he urged.

Nyaika closed with a firm promise to supporters: “This season, we’re coming to win.”
