Arsenal have confirmed the signing of England winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea for an initial £48.5 million, potentially rising to over £50 million.
The 23-year-old penned a five-year contract at the Emirates.
Madueke’s arrival comes after he departed Chelsea’s Club World Cup camp early to finalize the move. He expressed his excitement on Instagram, eager to “repay the faith shown in me.”
With 92 appearances and 20 goals for Chelsea, including a Conference League win, and a senior England debut where he assisted Harry Kane’s winner, Madueke brings a strong pedigree.
Manager Mikel Arteta praised him as an “exciting and powerful young player” and one of the “most talented wide forward players in the Premier League.”
Despite the excitement from the club, the transfer has faced significant fan opposition, with a #NoToMadueke petition gathering over 5,000 signatures and ‘Arteta out’ graffiti appearing on murals.
Madueke primarily plays on the right wing, a position dominated by Bukayo Saka, but can also operate on the left, offering competition for Gabriel Martinelli.
His stats from last season, including higher expected goals, shots, and touches in the opposition box than both Saka and Martinelli, suggest he could significantly boost Arsenal’s attack.
Madueke is Arsenal’s fourth summer signing, and the second from Chelsea, following Kepa Arrizabalaga.
