A youthful team of seven table tennis players and two coaches has been officially flagged off to represent Uganda at three major continental tournaments in Lagos, Nigeria.
The national delegation will compete in the African Hopes Week and Challenge (U12) from July 20 to 25, followed by the Africa Youth Championships (U15 & U19) set for July 27 to August 3. The tour wraps up with the Africa Youth Cup on August 4 and 5.
The flag-off ceremony, held at the National Council of Sports, was presided over by Senior Sports Officer Annet Nankya. She applauded the team’s ambition and commitment, urging them to raise Uganda’s flag high in all three competitions.
Coach Katumba Alvin, one of the two team leaders, expressed strong confidence in the squad’s potential. He recalled Uganda’s performance last year, where they claimed silver and bronze medals, and believes the current group is even better prepared.
“Last year, my team performed really well and brought home medals. After weeks of dedicated training, I believe we are ready to go even further this time,” said Katumba.
The triple-tournament stretch offers Uganda’s young stars a big chance to shine, not just through competition but also by gaining valuable experience and continental exposure.
