Uganda will have three of its top match officials on duty at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with Shamira Nabadda, Lucky Kasalirwe, and Ronald Katenya named among the referees appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the tournament.
CHAN 2024, which kicks off on August 2, will be hosted across Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
Shamira Nabadda will serve as a centre referee. A CAF and FIFA-listed official, Nabadda brings vast experience to the table, having officiated at the CAF Women’s Champions League, the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and World Cup qualifiers.
Lucky Kasalirwe has also been selected as a centre referee. His consistent performances in the Uganda Premier League and regional CAF competitions have made him a respected name among match officials.
Ronald Katenya completes the trio as an assistant referee. Katenya has built a strong reputation through assignments at CECAFA tournaments and continental games.
The Uganda Football Referees Association sees this as a reward for years of investment in referee development and a sign of Uganda’s rising stature in African football officiating.
