Arsenal are reportedly on the cusp of signing Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, with negotiations over add-on payments being the final hurdle.
A €73.5 million (£63.5m) deal has been largely agreed upon, although discussions over the finer details delayed a swift completion before Arsenal’s pre-season tour.
The 27-year-old Swedish forward has already accepted a five-year contract with the Gunners.
Gyokeres has been in high demand following an exceptional season, scoring 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting and helping them secure back-to-back Primeira Liga titles.
Manager Mikel Arteta has been eager to add an elite striker, a search that intensified after hitting an impasse with Benjamin Sesko.
Gyokeres’s prolific scoring record, which includes 97 goals in 102 matches during his two seasons in Portugal, and a notable stint at Coventry, makes him a key acquisition to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options.
