Round six of the National Motocross Championship, set for this Sunday at the Victoria Race Track in Garuga, will double as a key build-up event for the 2025 FIM Motocross of African Nations (MXOAN), scheduled to take place next month in Zimbabwe.
Hundreds of riders are expected to compete across multiple categories, with the event also featuring the second round of the National Sprint Championship.
According to Arthur Blick, vice president in charge of motorcycling at the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), the race offers local riders a crucial opportunity to sharpen their skills ahead of the continental showdown.
“Uganda is currently ranked second in Africa after finishing behind South Africa last year in Morocco. We want to go a step further and win the title this time. Riders have upgraded their machines, and this weekend’s race is vital preparation,” Blick said.
“The championship was initially set for Kenya but was moved to Harare. With just a month to go, this event comes at the perfect time.”
Uganda finished second at the 2024 MXOAN, narrowly missing out to champions South Africa.
