Watoto Launches Golf Drive to Fund Skills for 1,000 Women

This year’s Watoto Golf Tournament aims to raise Shs 350 million to support women skilling initiatives under the Watoto Ministries, using golf as a tool for community transformation.

Building on last year’s event, which raised Shs 80 million, this edition introduces professional golfers who will compete for a Shs 17 million prize pool. The tournament will run from August 7 to 9.

Dubbed “Hope on the Green,” the event will bring together over 200 amateur and professional golfers, combining friendly competition with philanthropy.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Uganda Golf Union Head of Communications Mark Namanya was joined by Watoto Church Senior Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo, church members, and tournament sponsors to unveil the tournament.

“The professionals are the best golfers in the country, and many times they don’t get the recognition they deserve. I want to thank Watoto for including them—this is the highest echelon of talent,” Namanya said.

Watoto Ministries has so far cared for nearly 6,000 children and empowered 7,500 women across communities to meet their basic needs and become leaders.

Senior Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo highlighted the deeper purpose behind the tournament.

“It’s about raising funds to help us care for communities, with a focus on empowering mothers. Our goal is to support 1,000 women in growing their businesses to earn stable incomes,” he said.

This year’s tournament is backed by several sponsors and partners, including Uganda Airlines, Equity Bank, Opportunity Bank, East Africa Development Bank, Stanbic Bank, NCBA Bank, Fairway Hotel, Pepsi, and Imbogo Safaris.
