Impis Rugby Club have withdrawn from the 2025 Kabaka Coronation 7s due to financial constraints.
This development was confirmed by Uganda Sevens Committee chairperson Desire Derekford Mugumisa on Friday morning during the ‘Sport This Morning’ show.
Impis, a non-core team invited to the series, had earned their place at the Coronation 7s after finishing second in the Central Region 7s this past Sunday. They were in Pool D with KOBs, Mongers and Rams.
The other invited teams from the Central Region are Victoria Sharks, Warriors and Kisubi Pacers.
According to Mugumisa, the next option to replace Impis was Kyambogo— who were fifth in the Central Region 7s— but the university side said that was too short a notice for them to take part in the competition.
Thus, a Kyadondo Select team comprising players from Heathens and Buffaloes will replace Impis in Pool D.
The Kabaka Coronation 7s tournament at Kyadondo Rugby Club will kick off at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning and run until 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.
NBS Sport will broadcast the action at Kyadondo Rugby Club from 12 p.m. noon on both Saturday and Sunday.
