Warriors (men) and Nile Rapids (women) rugby clubs have joined a quickly growing list of club withdrawals from the 2025 Kabaka Coronation 7s tournament.
Similar to Impis whose withdrawal was reported by NBS Sport early on Friday morning, Warriors cited financial constraints which have affected their participation.
The development was published by Uganda Sevens Committee chair Desire Derekford Mugumisa on his Twitter/X page at 10:49 p.m. EAT on Friday night, hours before kickoff.
Both Impis and Warriors were invited from the Central Region 7s where they finished the first round in second and third places respectively.
Rams’ development side “Rams II” will replace Warriors.
Nile Rapids, on the other hand, have been caught in the crossfire between ‘Hippos Rugby Club’ and ‘Jinja Hippos Rugby Club’ who are engaged in endless ownership squabbles at the Damwaters.
The 2023 Uganda Cup champions have sided with the Jinja Hippos faction who also withdrew their players from the men’s competition.
Nile Rapids were in Pool A with holders Avengers, She Wolves and Panthers. Their replacement had not been confirmed by press time.
The Kabaka Coronation 7s is the first of seven stops on the 2025 Nile Special Uganda 7s Series. It is being played at Kyadondo Rugby Club from August 2-3.
