NBS Sports’ Brian Asiimwe joins Grace Lyndsay Mbabazi as one of the journalists nominated for the prestigious Uganda Rugby Union Awards for the year 2023.
Brian is nominated in the category of Journalist of the Year Radio/TV.
During his acceptance speech for the nomination, Brian Asiimwe said, ‘Being nominated for the Uganda Rugby Union Award for the best radio/TV personality is a huge honor for me.
Despite a football and basketball background from my school days, rugby was a sport I interacted with often at Kyambogo College School for the six years I was there.
From a computer teacher, Allan Otim, who doubled as the school rugby team coach, to classmates like Solomon Okia, Isaac Tago, Paul Epilo, Syrum Wathum, Al Haji Manano, Simon Nyeko, who have all played rugby at the very top level, have shaped my passion for the sport that I hold dear.
With a rich rugby background, it was always going to strengthen how I identify with rugby as a journalist. Having started out as a radio host at Hot 100 FM in 2015 before I joined Vision Group and then eventually Next Media, my time covering rugby and many other sports has been truly rewarding as I look forward to even better times to come.
