Vipers SC have once again cemented their status as the best football club in Uganda, according to the latest CAF Club Rankings released ahead of the 2025/26 continental competitions.
The reigning Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup champions are ranked 57th in Africa, jointly holding the spot with three other clubs, despite slipping from 49th place last year.
CAF’s updated rankings reflect club performances in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup over the past five years, with greater emphasis on recent results.
Vipers earned 3 points, making them the top-ranked Ugandan side and third in East Africa.
Only Tanzanian giants Simba SC, who are ranked 5th with 48 points, and 12th placed Young Africans SC (Yanga) rank higher in the region.
Namungo FC of Tanzania also features on the list, placed jointly at 75th out of 78 clubs ranked.
Vipers’ strong domestic season saw them clinch a seventh Uganda Premier League title and a fourth Uganda Cup, earning them the sole Ugandan ticket to the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.
They will feature in the preliminary round draw set to take place tomorrow, August 9, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
On the continental stage, Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly lead the rankings with 78 points, followed by South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns (62), Tunisia’s Esperance (57), Morocco’s RS Berkane (52), and Simba SC.
The top 10 also includes teams like Zamalek, Wydad, and USM Alger.
The rankings will influence the Champions League and Confederation Cup seedings, and Vipers’ position will determine their path in Africa’s premier club tournament.
