Uganda Golf Club Raises Shs 130m for Watoto Mothers Initiative

Uganda Golf Club captain Paul Charles Rukundo says the club remains committed to supporting Watoto Church’s efforts to empower underprivileged mothers through golf.

Rukundo made the remarks on Saturday at the climax of the second edition of the Watoto Golf Tournament, held at Uganda Golf Club, Kitante. The event raised over Shs 130 million to help mothers in the Watoto community start and grow businesses.

Professional and amateur golfers competed under the theme “Hope on the Green”, with teams from Watoto and the corporate sector, as well as juniors, men, ladies, and seniors all taking part on the par-72 course.

“At the golf club, we share the same passion for supporting the community and society,” Rukundo said. “We offered subsidized rates for the two categories as we encourage support for such initiatives. We have given Watoto the platform to fundraise and collect money for this cause.”

Professional golfer David Kamulindwa, who carded 67, 72, and 70 over three days to win the professionals’ category, praised the tournament.

“Watoto have come on board to support professionals, even as they focus on raising money for their cause. This tournament also helps us prepare for the Uganda Open,” Kamulindwa said.

Winners across the men’s, ladies’, juniors’, seniors’, teams, and side-bets categories received vouchers and prizes courtesy of various sponsors.
