Ian Sendi’s return to former club, FC Minneapolis is imminent. The player agreed a three-year deal. Head Coach David Adeola expressed a strong desire to return his skipper resulting in the board finalizing his documentation with the player’s management team, and later with the USA Federation by the first week of January to ensure his eligibility for the upcoming spring season. Despite his representative preference for a short-term contract, the club insisted on a three year deal with an option to extend without restrictions.
This development follows Sendi’s hiatus from football since August, before choosing to reunite with the City Lions he joined in 2014.
Sendi’s successful profile with the league makes his homecoming eagerly anticipated: American Premier League winner in 2015 before its merger with the Premier League of America to form the current United Premier Soccer League (UPSL).
Notable achievements include: reaching consecutive UPSL West Division semi-finals in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, FC Minneapolis made history by becoming the first Minnesota team to reach the finals of the US National Cup in over a century, in which they lost to Spring Field at the Toyota Stadium in Chicago.
During the same year, they also became the first Minnesota team to reach the semifinals of the Champions of Regions championship. In successive years – 2021 and 2022, Sendi’s club clinched victory in the Minnesota Fall Cup.
His return to FC Minneapolis is set to reignite the synergy that brought past successes to the team.
The City lions cant wait to roar with the skipper rejoining the pride.
