Walukuba Barbarians have issued a medical update on five members of their team who were involved in a road accident early Monday morning on the Kampala–Gulu highway.
According to the information released on the club’s official X handle on Tuesday morning, coach Leonard Kulubambula, who was driving the vehicle when it overturned in Kkungu, Luweero District, was discharged from hospital the same day.
The post further indicates that player Duncan Kirya is scheduled to undergo knee surgery, while club media attache Elijah Akena had minor stomach surgery.
Jude Bakanyanga and sports photographer Tonny Blair Otto escaped with manageable pain.
The accident happened around 4 AM as the group returned from the Gulu Rugby 7s, the second circuit of the Nile Special National Rugby 7s Series.
Police in Wobulenzi said the Toyota Harrier they were travelling in lost control at a corner before overturning.
The injured were first treated at Njovu Hospital in Wobulenzi before being transferred to Mulago National Hospital.
The Uganda Rugby Union said it was optimistic about their recovery and thanked emergency responders and medical teams for their swift action.
