Toto Wolff has conceded that Mercedes failed to properly adapt to Formula 1’s ground-effect regulations, which ended the team’s decade of dominance.
The new rules, introduced in 2022, left Mercedes at a significant disadvantage, and Wolff admits the team simply “couldn’t adapt.”
While they’ve had flashes of brilliance, including dominant weekends and Lewis Hamilton’s win at the British Grand Prix last year, their performance has been inconsistent.
As the team prepares for the next major rule changes in 2026, Wolff emphasized the need to learn from the current campaign to ensure they don’t miss the mark again.
