Chelsea have officially agreed to a £40 million fee to sign Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho, in a move that signals the end of a difficult relationship between the 21-year-old and his former club’s coach, Ruben Amorim.
Garnacho’s transfer is United’s fourth-largest ever sale, with the fee for the homegrown player being crucial for the club to meet Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The move also comes as Chelsea look to balance their books, with the club nearing a Premier League record for player sales in a single summer.
Forward Christopher Nkunku is close to a £32 million move to AC Milan, while Nicolas Jackson is in talks for a loan to Bayern Munich.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca sees Garnacho as a key addition to the squad, despite his on-field struggles at United, which saw him score only two of 16 big chances last season.
The deal follows a period of public friction at United after Garnacho was left out of the Europa League final starting lineup, leading Amorim to tell the forward to find a new club.
