She Walks Platform Puts Women at the Center as Nyachama Wins Uganda Ladies Open

The 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Open ended with a playoff victory for Kenya’s Mercy Nyachama, but it was also a stage for Johnnie Walker to spotlight women as leaders and changemakers through its She Walks platform.

Brand Manager Christine Kyokunda said the Sip Over celebration, held at the close of the tournament, was designed to ensure women remain at the center of the story.

“There was no better way to close an exciting Ladies Open than with a She Walks celebration,” she said.

“This Sip Over is part of a bigger initiative that says women belong at the center as changemakers, leaders, and trailblazers. Every stride matters.”

The Ladies Open, played at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club, was settled in dramatic fashion as Nyachama defeated Tanzania’s Neema Olomi in sudden death after both tied on 230 strokes.

Uganda’s three-time champion Martha Babirye finished third, with defending champion Iddy Madina Hussein of Tanzania in fifth and Lugazi’s Winnie Musuya in sixth.

But while the golf provided the spectacle, Kyokunda emphasized that the She Walks platform was about using such moments to elevate women’s visibility beyond sport.

Music, awards, and mentorship activities completed the evening in what Johnnie Walker described as a commitment to keeping women’s voices central.
