Kyaka County secured their spot in the final of the 2025 MTN Kabode Tooro Kingdom Masaza Cup after a 1-1 draw with Mwenge South in the return leg of their semifinal at Katoosa playground, Kyenjojo District, on Sunday.
The result sealed a 4-1 aggregate win for Kyaka, who had already built a commanding lead with a 3-0 first-leg victory in Kyegegwa. Goals from Tumusiime Fred, Jonathan Moses Kisaku, and a brace from Julius Tumusiime gave them the upper hand in that opener.
Mwenge South started brightly in front of their fans, with Marvin Onyango putting them ahead in the 23rd minute. But Kyaka, champions in 2022, responded after the break when Dennis Kakooza equalized in the 50th minute to end any hopes of a comeback.
Julius Tumusiime, who scored twice in the first leg, said the team is confident of reclaiming the title. “We played a good game, created chances and utilized them. We needed that draw away to qualify for our first finals in four appearances. We are confident we can win the trophy this season,” he noted.
This qualification cements Kyaka’s place as the most consistent side in the competition, becoming the first team to reach three finals since the tournament began in 2022. They won in their debut year against Bunyangabu, lost the 2023 final to Mwenge South, and now return for a third shot at glory.
Standing in their way is Fort Portal, who knocked out Burahya in the other semifinal. The final will be staged on Sunday, September 7, at Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal City, with both football and netball finals on the day. King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru is expected to preside.
The winners will take home UGX 12 million and the trophy, courtesy of MTN. Mwenge South will face Burahya in the third-place playoff.
For Kyaka, it is another chance to strengthen their legacy. For Fort Portal, it is an opportunity to make amends after their narrow defeat in last year’s final.
