Herta Joins Cadillac as Test Driver, Takes “Big Risk” for F1 Dream

American IndyCar driver Colton Herta has been named a test driver for the new Cadillac team, a move he hopes will pave his way into Formula 1.

The 25-year-old, who has won nine IndyCar races, has struggled to earn the F1 Super Licence points needed to compete.

To chase his dream, Herta is leaving his established career in IndyCar to race in Formula 2 next season.
Cadillac F1 CEO Dan Towriss called the move a “big risk,” acknowledging Herta is not guaranteed a race seat.

However, he praised Herta for his willingness to “be uncomfortable” and choose an “unconventional path.”

Herta echoed this sentiment, stating that staying in IndyCar would have been “the easy thing,” but he wants to “fight for my dream” and sees this as his “last shot.”
