A review panel has confirmed two major VAR mistakes in recent Premier League games.
The Key Match Incidents panel found that Fulham’s goal against Chelsea was wrongly disallowed and Wolves should have been given a penalty against Everton, both on August 30.
The panel unanimously agreed that Fulham’s goal, scored by Josh King, should have stood, contradicting the decision made by VAR Michael Salisbury and referee Rob Jones.
Fulham manager Marco Silva criticized the ruling, stating, “VAR is not here to re-referee the game.” Salisbury was later stood down from his next match.
The panel also determined that Wolves were incorrectly denied a penalty in their match against Everton.
Three of the five members said VAR Craig Pawson should have intervened. These errors highlight ongoing issues with the consistency of the VAR system.
