In a stunning display of talent, 17-year-old American Iva Jovic has become the youngest player to claim a WTA title this season after defeating Emiliana Arango 6-4, 6-1 in the Guadalajara Open final.
Jovic, at 17 years and 283 days old, surpassed Mirra Andreeva to become the youngest champion on the 2025 WTA Tour. Her victory also marks her as the youngest American to win a tour-level crown since Coco Gauff’s triumph in Parma in 2021.
Entering the tournament ranked 73rd in the world, Jovic’s victory propels her to a new career-high ranking of 36. The young star, who started the year ranked 206, converted six of her 11 break points and saved six of nine in the 95-minute match.
Despite battling illness, her opponent Arango fought hard in the first set before Jovic took control in the second.
Following her win, Jovic praised her opponent, stating, “You showed so much fight and gave the people a show… people like Emiliana make it easier and always have a smile on their face.”
Jovic’s win comes after a solid year of Grand Slam performances, where she reached the second round of the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open.
