Formula One has confirmed that the British Grand Prix at Silverstone will host a sprint race in 2026, marking the format’s return to the historic circuit after a five-year hiatus.
The British Grand Prix will be one of six venues on the 2026 F1 calendar to feature a sprint race, which offers more on-track action for fans and broadcast partners.
The 2026 F1 sprint calendar also includes returning venues Shanghai and Miami, as well as three new locations: Montreal, Zandvoort, and Singapore.
The addition of these new circuits will be a key feature of the new era of regulations set to be introduced in 2026. The British Grand Prix weekend is scheduled to take place during the first weekend of July.
Since its introduction in 2021 at Silverstone, the sprint format has proven to be a popular addition, with F1 bosses noting that viewership on sprint weekends was, on average, 10% greater than on non-sprint weekends in 2024.
The sport is currently in discussions to potentially expand the sprint schedule to as many as 12 races from 2027, with format changes such as reverse grids also being considered.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali stated that the sprint format provides “more action each day for our fans, broadcast partners, and for the promoters – driving increased attendance and viewership.”
