Students from Makerere University and Kyambogo University on Monday 22nd September marked World Car-Free Day with a spirited Climate Change Awareness Run through the heart of Kampala.
Under the banner “Mobility for a Green and Sustainable Future,” hundreds of participants filled the streets, covering 10km and 5km routes that set off from Makerere University’s Freedom Square.
The sea of runners and walkers turned the city green for a morning, sending a clear message about the need for cleaner, more sustainable transport.
Organisers said the event was more than a fitness challenge.
By leaving cars parked and relying on their own energy, students showed how young people can push for climate justice and inspire innovation for an eco-friendly future.
Their enthusiasm, organisers added, proves that youth-led initiatives can motivate entire communities to embrace greener habits and confront the threat of climate change.
