The Uganda U-17 women’s football team, Teen Cranes, is gearing up to face Cameroon this Saturday February, 3rd at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende in the first-leg of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The squad has been in camp since 23rd last month, training from the MTN Omondi stadium in Lugogo.
Head Coach Sheryl Botes is impressed with the players’ exceptional potential, saying that their preparation focused on both defensive and offensive play.
“We focused on defensive and offensive play phases, ensuring that the girls grasp our requirements. Friday session will be brief to preserve player energy. I believe we are ready to face Cameroon,” declared a confident Botes.
She challenged the Crested Cranes players to give their best as a wave of young talents vies for their positions at the senior national team.
“To the Crested Cranes, be aware that young girls are coming for your positions on the national team. Some U-20 players are too good not to play for the senior national team,” she revealed.
The Teen Cranes are making their second appearance in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers and Botes looks to build on their experience for a different outcome than the previous edition, where they were eliminated by Ethiopia at the first round.
