Eberechi Eze scored his first goal for Arsenal since his £60 million transfer, helping the Gunners to a hard-fought 2-0 victory over League One side Port Vale in the Carabao Cup third round at Vale Park.
Eze opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but despite making nine changes, the Premier League side struggled to break down a resilient Port Vale.
Substitute Leandro Trossard finally sealed the win late on, driving in the second goal in the 86th minute to prevent any late drama.
The match also saw Bukayo Saka manage over 60 minutes as he works back to full fitness. Manager Mikel Arteta praised Eze after the game, but noted the forward “still a lot more to give.”
Arsenal will host Trossard’s former club Brighton in the next round.
