Barcelona fought back from a goal down to defeat Real Oviedo 3-1 on Thursday, overcoming a shock deficit to maintain their unbeaten run and close the gap on La Liga leaders Real Madrid.
The match was marked by the long-awaited first La Liga start for Oviedo’s 40-year-old veteran, Santi Cazorla, who was later named Player of the Match.
Oviedo took the lead in the 33rd minute when Alberto Reina capitalized on an error by Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
Barcelona’s quality eventually shone through in the second half. Eric García equalized in the 56th minute, followed by a trademark flicked header from Robert Lewandowski in the 70th minute, assisted by Frenkie de Jong.
Ronald Araujo sealed the 3-1 victory late on (88′) with a header from a Marcus Rashford corner.
The result leaves Barcelona in second place, just two points behind the top spot, while Oviedo remains deep in the relegation zone.
