Legendary midfielder Sergio Busquets, the former Spain and Barcelona captain, has announced he will retire from professional football at the end of the Major League Soccer season in December.
The 38-year-old, currently playing for Inter Miami alongside former teammates Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba, concludes an illustrious career defined by massive success.
During his 18 years at Barcelona, Busquets won 32 major honours, including nine La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues, making 722 appearances—the third-most in club history.
Internationally, he was a key figure in Spain’s historic run, earning 143 caps and winning the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship.
Busquets shared his decision on social media, stating: “I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all, grateful.”
He will finish his career competing in the MLS Cup playoffs, for which Inter Miami recently qualified.
