The 2025 Pepsi University Football League began on Thursday with two lively encounters that set a competitive tone for the new season.
Defending champions Uganda Martyrs University were held to a goalless draw by Kampala University in the opening fixture.
Kampala’s back line stood firm under pressure, frustrating the title holders and earning an encouraging point from a tightly fought contest.
Later in the day, Kyambogo University came from behind to beat debutants Isabat University 2–1. Isabat took an early lead and showed promise in their first league outing, but Kyambogo’s experience told in the second half as they rallied to secure all three points.
Kampala University director Professor Alhajji Badru Katerega applauded his side’s resilience and highlighted the wider value of campus sport. “Sports keep students engaged, healthy and competitive. It is an important pillar in shaping discipline and character,” he said.
The league resumes this weekend with more group-stage action across various venues as teams chase early momentum.
