Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has pulled out of a scheduled Pirelli tyre test in Mugello, Italy, to be with his 12-year-old bulldog, Roscoe, who is in a coma after a severe health emergency.
Hamilton confirmed on Instagram that Roscoe was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. During checks, the dog suffered a cardiac arrest, though doctors managed to restore a heartbeat.
“They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he’s in a coma. We don’t know whether he will wake from this,” Hamilton wrote, assuring fans he is remaining by Roscoe’s side.
Chinese reserve driver Zhou Guanyu replaced Hamilton for the crucial testing session.
Roscoe, adopted by Hamilton in 2013, is a popular fixture in the F1 paddock and has over 1.3 million followers online.
